From 15 to 24 October 2012, En. Ghazali (Chairman of GOLD), Mary Chen (secretary) and I was invited to the Pemandu Lab, representing SMK Bandar Sunway, to give input on the transformation of special education in Malaysia. It was an interesting mixed group comprising educators from the special education unit in MOE, parents with special needs children and NGOs. We were all from different organizations and background but fought for a common cause - to provide a better education for special needs children in Malaysia. I was amazed at how team leaders from Pemandu managed to put together all the pieces of the puzzle successfully considering the diversity of opinions and ideas coming from the members of the committee. By the end of the two weeks, we reached a quick-win decision which we hope can be kicked off immediately in January 2013. Our Deputy Prime Minster YB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin attended the last day accompanied by Pemandu boss, YB Dato' Sri Idris Jala, to listen to the input that has been put together and recommended by the working committee. We were extremely heartened by their positive feedback and pleased with their commitments to implement our suggestions as per our recommendation.
