GENERATING OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEARNING DISABLES (GOLD)
GOLD, at Kompleks 3C, provides supported employment and
rehabilitative vocational training centre for young adults with Learning
Disabilities (LD). GOLD operates as “Not
for Profit” Social Enterprise (SE). As an SE, GOLD initiates plan, facilitate
and implement work programmes to Generate Opportunities for the Learning
Disabled. This initiatives enable GOLD
to gain a regular revenues that will be used for the centre’s operating costs,
provide training services and remunerations and increase job creations for these
under privilege community members who would otherwise be unemployed and forever
reliant on other for life.

well being within the community.
MISSION
To plan, facilitate and implement
programs in Generating Opportunities for Learning Disables – targeting the
youth at post-schooling age, and to facilitate the paradigm shift for PWLD as
follows:

GOAL
It is our GOAL to enable PWLD to maximize their potential and
make them as contributing members to the Society; from being irrelevant to
relevant and from being tolerated to being embraced.
Learning Disabilities
Learning Disabilities or Intellectual Disabilities
refer to a number of disorders, which may affect the acquisition, organization,
retention, understanding, or use of verbal or nonverbal information. Examples
of Learning or Intellectual Disabilities includes Down Syndrome, Autism,
Dyslexia and Minimal Brain injury dysfunction / Attention deficit hyperactivity
disorder (ADHD).
Learning disabilities are lifelong. A condition of
unexpected academic under-achievement or achievement, which is maintained only
by unusually high levels of efforts and support. A deficit in intellectual
functioning and associated disabilities have a significant effect on an
individual’s education, leisure, employment and social and personal
opportunities. As such, most LDs are unable to enter full time job after the
schooling age.
GOLD is motivated to create services and supports,
which empower people with Learning Disabilities to further their independence
and enhance their well being within the community.
